Mary Frumkin

Unlike the rest of the Board of Directors, I am a relative newcomer to Solana Beach in more than one way.   I came to the Rancho Santa Fe area in 1999 after living most of my life in Zimbabwe , Africa ,.  It was time to move on from that country and it was with considerable gratitude that I was granted “humanitarian alien” status! By USA and I am  now a citizen.  I was born and raised in England and went to Zimbabwe when I was 16.

We came to Rancho Santa Fe because my husband had previously lived here for many years before we met, and married,  in Zimbabwe .

I have a background in academia, lecturing History Honors students at the University of Zimbabwe .   As I could not get tenure in this department, I switched to law and practiced law for several years specializing in divorce.    I have always been involved politically and was active in Zimbabwe to obtain legal equality for women, denied under the constitution, and against governmental abuse of legal and human rights. I was also Chairman of the Board of Governors of a major government secondary school.

The last 15 years I have been involved in the corporate world.  First, as a Director and Trustee of my family’s considerable land holdings in Zimbabwe and then as an Executive Vice President for my husband’s door import business.  I am also a certified Mediator.

I volunteer as a Case Assessor  at the Juvenile Court, San Diego, for Voices for Children.

Having been round the world several times to develop our business, my husband and I are really thrilled to be retired and able to commit to community work.    Being surrounded by books, and people who love books and reading, is my idea of dying and going to heaven!
